Maureen Boyle, Board Treasurer
While traveling in the American southwest in the 1970s, Maureen, at the time a native of
Western Pennsylvania, caught a ride across several states with a fellow she only knew as “Art”,
who was heading back home to the small town of Grass Valley in Nevada County, California.
She had never been to California, and had no future plans at that point except to travel to
Mexico for a few months holiday. Art was kind and wise and before parting ways in Arizona told
Maureen to “go out and see the world. When you’re done, think about settling in Grass Valley.”
The memory of that conversation quickly receded, but in 2016, after retiring from a career in
corporate finance in the San Francisco Bay Area, Malaysia, and other countries, Maureen finally
did make Grass Valley her permanent home.
Music has always been an important part of her life and she quickly became a steadfast fan and
supporter of KVMR. She has served in volunteer capacities at KVMR, the Center for the Arts in
Grass Valley and as local coordinator for the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program, which
provides free tax preparation and assistance for Nevada County residents. Maureen believes
that community radio and citizen led community development and support programs, as they
exist here in Nevada County can become a model for communities nationwide.
