Karl Chelette / Broadcaster
Karl has been a working musician off and on since he was 16 years of age. Originally a trombonist he added 5 string banjo and then electric bass soon after high school. After several tours of Canada with a rock band he took up jazz studies at Laney College in Oakland, switching to acoustic bass along the way. After suffering for several years with tendinitis he switched to drums, launching a new career at age 37. Karl moved to Nevada City with wife Betsy Lombard in 2001 and plays in several local bands including The Earles of Newtown and Reflections, led by local bassist Bill Douglass. Karl became interested in radio after his wife became a broadcaster at KVMR several years ago. He has widely varied interests in many different genres of music and is thrilled to be a broadcaster and volunteer at KVMR!
