Diana Cooley-Filikitonga / Broadcaster
Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, I grew up on different Air Force bases while my father pursued a career in the military. There was always music in the house. One vivid memory is falling asleep each evening listening to Wolfman Jack on XERB on my father’s Japanese radio. Following his retirement, our family relocated to the Nevada City area in 1965, at my mother’s insistence. I lived on Maui for over 20 years where I immersed myself in the culture. During this time I worked as a d.j. for an all Hawaiian music radio station KPOA 93.5 fm. I met my husband Similoni and moved back to Nevada City in 2004. I believe music is very powerful and can help to bring the world together if we pay attention.
