Sequestered Episode #19: Glitter, Glam & Born to Boogie (8/4)

Musically we came out of the 60s with a lot of protest, freedom of expression and un-plugging from the system. The 70s pushed back on the sound, but amplified these themes. Glam or Glam Rock found its expression through dress, pushing boundaries and throwing a party. This is rebel music, that is a relevant today as it was then. Join guest host Michael McDonald for a fascinating look at this rather misunderstood, yet beloved musical genre.

Sequestered Episode #18: Good Troubles (7/28)

In early June we aired an Other Side episode that called attention in subtle ways to the unrest in our country, and now over a month later how the world is feeling about centuries old racial injustice. Unfortunately a technical glitch stopped the broadcast for a good 10-15 minutes and many listeners tuned out. Tonight we are rebroadcasting that episode along with a bit of new material paying homage to the recent passing of long time civil rights leader John Lewis. Mr. Lewis spoke regularly for decades about getting into “good troubles”, something I think is too often lacking in today’s modern society. The evening will be filled with an eclectic mix of protest and solidarity music and spoken word ranging from the 1950s right up to the past several days. You’ll hear from activists such as Gil Scott Heron, James Brown, David Byrne, James Baldwin, Marvin Gaye, Tom Morello, Paul Roberson, Odetta, and so many more. My friends and foes, change is on the way whether we want it or not, so tune in, stand up and enjoy the world awake.
