KVMR's Ticketpalooza: Your Chance at 'Reverse Scalping' To Area Events

Better set your alarm clocks for 7 a.m. this Friday, August 16.

You see, KVMR 89.5 FM's semi-fabled Ticketpalooza returns that morning, featuring what the station calls "reverse scalping."

To the Nevada City non-profit radio station's Membership Coordinator Adrianna Kelly, it's a no-brainer.

Instead of paying more than event ticket prices, you pay, ta da, less. What a concept.

And that means a win-win-win situation for a morning of majorly discounted tickets, according to Kelly, available by calling the station at 530/265-9555 or going online at kvmr.org

"Okay, we love promoting touring artists," she says. "It's how musicians make a living these days."

"And we love it when people shake their booties to live bands," Kelly adds with a sly grin. "And we love it when we can make a couple bucks to support all the live music and festival broadcasts we do."

So it's a win for the artists and concert producers who get extra attention and promotion, a win for KVMR listeners who get event tickets at discounts up to, yes, 50%., sometimes even higher. And KVMR gets the extra revenue, yup, a win.

"Come on, it's a terrific deal," muses Kelly. "Listeners get to see shows for less money, and KVMR gets the proceeds."

Oh, don't worry, longtime Friday Morning Show host Jerianne Van Dijk loves the Ticketpalooza concept as well.

"You can play such a wide range of music to match the long list of concerts," she beams. "And it supports all of our venues and producers as well."

"I love giving away tickets, something I do every show," Van Dijk confides. "This is as close as you can get to that; you get the free tickets by donating to KVMR."

Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer and Zakir Hussain with special guest Rakesh Chaurasia play Mondavi Hall at UC Davis Oct. 18.  Tickets are available through Ticketpalooza this Friday on KVMR.
