'Hair' Film Proof 'Real Miracles Can Happen'

"Hair" is back, some 50 years after the original hit Broadway musical and nearly 40 years after the 1979 musical anti-war film.

The movie version of the story -- directed by Czech-born Milos Forman, adapted for the screen by Michael Weller and choreographed by Twyla Tharp -- will show one time only next Thursday (Oct. 25)  7 p.m. at the Nevada Theatre, 401 Broad Street, downtown Nevada City.

The evening is a benefit for the Bridge Street Project, the building collaboration between KVMR 89.5 FM's new radio home and the Nevada Theatre's renovations and new large backstage.

Ghosts, Hikes, Century Old Music, Classical 'Love-In' As KVMR Asks Listeners To 'Make Your Voice Heard'

It all starts with illustrated magnets, a hike,  Essential Backroads, what someone has up his bluegrass sleeve, the Greatest Hits of World War I, a Classical Music Love-In, a ghost tour of Nevada City, Music South Of A Border, Imagine, Harmony Ridge, Pink Floyd, Women in Folk, maybe some Cole Porter and definitely lots of Tom Petty.

Whew, does that sound like KVMR 89.5 FM or what?

Or at least the first half of the Nevada City non-profit radio station's fall on-air membership drive, beginning this Friday (October 12).

Say Anything!

KVMR Volunteer Goes 'Against The Grain,' Now Producer of Celtic Festival Broadcast

Now Allen Aastrom has a last name that pretty much guaranteed he'd be in the first seat of the first row in study hall. You know, alphabetical order...

"Oh, and detention hall, too," he laughed.

No detention or study hall right now for Aastrom.  He's keeping very busy as live remote  producer for KVMR 89.5 FM's annual broadcast of the Nevada City radio station's Celtic Festival and Marketplace this coming weekend (Sept. 29-30), with a live broadcast 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

David Franco: From Philosopher To CPA And KVMR Board President

When  asked if he feels like he's in the hot seat, KVMR-FM Board President David Franco stands up, touches his chair, grins and says "it's not too bad."

Just about a year into his term heading the non-profit station's Board of Directors, Franco and the board learned the beloved Julie Chiarelli was stepping down as General Manager of KVMR to take a job at Hospice Of The Foothills. A national search began immediately, with a September 28 application deadline.

Free Celtic Youth Arts Program Kicks Off KVMR Celtic Festival With A Wallop Of Fun Later This Month

They're back, they're free, with fun and a great learning experience included at no extra cost.

Or so says KVMR Celtic Festival Youth Arts Program coordinator Laurie DesJardins, who notes with a wink in her eye that they've once again been "expanded a bit."

More on that later, but here's the skinny:

His First Daytime Guest on KVMR: Pattie Boyd

So new volunteer KVMR 89.5 FM broadcaster Peter Blachley has his first daytime radio show coming up later this month.

Is he easing into it? You know, playing it safe?

Hardly.  Blachley will interview and profile star-studded English model, author and photographer Pattie Boyd, who's been married to both The Beatles' George Harrison and legendary rock guitarist Eric Clapton.

"Patti is a good friend with a fascinating life," said Blachley. "She's the only living spouse of a Beatle, while they were The Beatles, and that's a story in itself."
