A Closer Look: Solas - All These Years

"All these Years", celebrates the 20 years of brilliant music brought forth by Irish- American group Solas.   The name Solas, from the Irish language, means light- a perfect name for the inspiring sounds of Solas.   This CD has it all, great fast tunes, soaring female vocals, traditional songs and contemporary pieces that cross genre lines (a bit of rock, a bit of American folk).   "Balancing tradition and innovation as deftly as this has always been a key part of Solas' musical formula"(Hearth music).
What I especially love about this CD is that it weaves a thread through its years by including all the amazing singers that have been a part of the group--- the voices of Karan Casey, Dierdre Scanlon, Mairead Phelan, Niamh Varian-Barry and Norianna Kennedy as well as its newest singer Moira Smiley-- are all stunning. And the changing vocalists and styles makes the listening exciting and surprising--- Overall,  it's a delightful CD and a real tribute to the band's importance to Celtic music in America. - Laurie DesJardins
