3. Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal (TTSD) will retrieve full dumpsters throughout the day.

Please limit loads to no more than 3-yards per trip. To facilitate unloading, position a tarp on the bottom of the truck bed or trailer before loading the material. If material is transported in bags, the bags must be emptied on site and removed by the hauler.

Acceptable items: residential green waste, biomass consisting of all tree and plant trimmings, weeds, leaves, and branches.

Prohibited items: commercial green waste, rounds larger than 24 inches, stumps, rocks, boards, and trash.

Grant funding from the Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District (NSAQMD) is expanding free residential green waste disposal opportunities throughout Nevada County. Nevada County Office of Emergency Services (NCOES) recently received this grant and is partnering with the Town of Truckee, Truckee Fire Protection District, and the Fire Safe Council of Nevada County (FSC) to provide free residential green waste disposal at the Truckee Rodeo Grounds on May 22, May 29, June 19, and June 26, 2020, from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., at 10695 Brockway Rd., Truckee CA 96161.

Truckee Fire Protection District’s Chief Seline says, “Families are already taking advantage of the extra time around the house, due to the coronavirus, to catch up on special projects like defensible space implementation and home hardening activities. Fire mitigation is essential, and we hope these free disposal opportunities help families get this critical work done.”

“Green Waste drop off days are an economical and efficient way to dispose of yard waste without having to drive to the landfill or try to conduct dooryard burning. This is a great way to reduce the threat of a catastrophic wildfire in our neighborhoods while at the same time recognizing that, with the air quality grant funding this project, we receive several benefits,” says Truckee Emergency Services Coordinator, Bob Womack.

This program will be fueled by the generosity of dozens of volunteers. Adults, and teens over the age of 16 volunteering with an adult, are encouraged participate. Drivers will be asked to stay in their vehicles and to follow the cues of the staff and volunteers inspecting truck loads and directing traffic. Fire Safe Council is still looking for volunteers. Paul Cummings, NCOES Program Manager says, “We have designed a program that will be as contact-free as possible. Strict safety measures have been developed in consultation with the Nevada County Public Health Department to keep staff, volunteers, and the community safe.
Funds from NSAQMD will also provide 15 weeks of free chipping to the community and will assist 15 low income residents with access and functional needs by providing defensible space clearing around their homes.

“Free residential green waste is the perfect complement to our other efforts like our free Defensible Space Advisory Visits available upon request. Our volunteers are trained on defensible space, physical distancing, and best sanitation practices. Starting with a visit is a great way to design a defensible space plan that is customized for your home.” says Jamie Jones, Executive Director of the Fire Safe Council.
