A Successful Partnership
KVMR Community Radio and the Nevada Theatre Commission joined together in 2013 to complete critical repairs to the back wall of the theater, build a much-needed backstage area and provide a home for KVMR. The Bridge Street Project was completed in early 2015, helping both KVMR and the Nevada Theatre to continue to fulfill their missions of bringing people together to celebrate performing and visual arts and give voice to the community through discourse and action.
The partnership strengthens the mission of each organization, as it has added to the vibrancy of the Bridge Street cultural corridor and improved the landscape of downtown Nevada City.
This is truly a community project. Over half of the $4 million cost has been donated or pledged by the generous fans and friends of KVMR and the Nevada Theatre.
The Nevada Theatre gained roughly 1500 square feet of backstage space for flexible use as a dressing room or green room and set storage. An elevator accessible from the KVMR space now provides access for persons with disabilities to the theatre stage level. The infrastructure is now in place to broadcast events at the Theatre live on KVMR.
With this new building, KVMR has expanded the diversity and reach of its programming with additional studios and new equipment. The new state-of-the-art performance studio welcomes local, regional and national artists to present live music. Space for pre-production is allowing for development of new programming, and for programming of a new KVMR digital channel. The acoustically designed broadcast studios and production suites have improved the sound quality of KVMR broadcasts.
