Wednesday on Dawn Eclectica - July 31st....1965!?

Paul Berger's picture

Next Wednesday, July 31 on my show Dawn Eclectica I will set the time machine back 54 years and play songs that were topping the charts on July 31, 1965.   From (Can't Get No) Satisfaction to  Help Me Rhonda, to Marie (you will remember it when I play it), to You've Got Your Troubles, to Anyway Anyhow Anywhere, these songs will resonate with you, whether you were wearing diapers or love beads at the time.   It was a strange time- the war in Vietnam was rising to the American consciousness, the Beatles had turned the world of popular music upside down and young people were starting to question their parents' rigid conventions.   In many ways, 1965 was the overture to the Summer of Love and Woodstock.

Plus, a double taste of Turkish pop, jazz-pop from Lake Street Dive and Birds of Chicago, a tear-jerking love song from a brilliant new Scottish artist Lewis Capaldi, a previously unreleased cut of the Who jamming out with Baby Don't You Do It, and Heart live with full symphony orchestra.   Not to mention a heart-rending duet by Willie Nelson and his daughter Paula doing "Who'll Stop the Rain," a fitting song for the times we live in.

Tune in next Wednesday from 4-7 am, or stream it on demand by clicking on archive.kvmr.org and scrolling down to Dawn Eclectica.
