After a colleague in Sacramento turned her on to KVMR in 1999, she fell hook, line, and sinker for both the radio station and the community of Nevada City. It didn’t take long before she knew that she wanted to BE PART OF this incredible community. In 2009 she enrolled in the broadcasters training class and within two months after completion, she and her partner packed up and made Nevada City their home.
Kelly now hosts three shows on KVMR. She is the current coordinator of the Women’s Collective and is in the rotation Monday nights from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM on the Women’s Show, where she serves up ‘Wow Factor’ female covers, interviews with women making a difference in the lives of women, and readings of works by women whose experiences touch us in ways that only women can.
You can also find Kelly and her partner, Michael Melendez, on the air the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 12:06 PM to 1:00 PM on Adios! Babylon, where they provide listeners with nearly an hour of live interviews, listener call-ins, and discussion on “hot” political and social justice issues. This show holds no punches, revealing truths that will hopefully jolt you out of complacency and into the streets.
If it’s not women’s issues or radical politics on the menu, you might find Kelly plugging in the gaps in the rotation Sunday afternoons from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on TransGlobal Sound System, turning you on to sounds from around the globe. Kelly says of TGSS “It’s a big, beautiful world out there and music is the bridge that connects us. You don’t need to speak the language to feel the connection.” Kelly hopes that you will join her and “musically explore the planet together”.
