When I recently purchased a new laptop it gave the option for adding Windows 8 for $15. Now that it's available, should I go ahead and download it or should I wait to see if there are bugs.
Thanks! Sandi

I caught a little of Zen Tech last Wednesday. A caller was asking about careers in computer technology that his son would be interested in. I would suggest for anyone exploring careers in computer science and information technology to start by taking classes at your local junior college. An Associate of Science degree in Information Technologies will give you a well rounded introduction to the field. My school has a Cisco Academy with a great lab. The Cisco curriculum is the best way to learn the TCP/IP protocols and computer networking. Microsoft is another good track as well as programming, web development, database management, and Unix systems. Security is possibly the best career goal, though it requires a good understanding of all the underlying technologies. As you mentioned, internships may be available to students. A tier 1 position at a help desk is like an IT crash course. Also, many schools subscribe to Microsoft Academic Alliance which allows students to get operating systems and development software for free. So, if you don't know what IT career path to follow, just start taking classes until you find what you like.
