The hobo jungle of the mind with a stew sampling of songs, poems, tales, politics (Utah's), and strange, unknown music.
Hovering on the edge of reality, Utah Phillips brings together a diverse collection of songs and stories steeped in the life of those who hold in common their experience of travel by freight train, an ability to carry a tune, and the tattoo of a rose somewhere on their person.
Here are 3 episodes of the beloved "Loafer's Glory" radio series (1997-2001), featuring U. Utah Phillips. KVMR is currently replaying the series on alternate Sunday nights 9pm, with hopes a new version of this creative radio artform will become available again in the future. A decade later, the stakes are much higher on issues of war and peace, civil liberties, economy and jobs, immigration, tolerance and much more.
One thing's for sure. No one walks away from an episode of Loafer's Glory without having learned something of honest value to their lives. Few programs can make that claim. Thanks, Utah.
