The Ultra Radio concept began as an extension of the first hour of Kevin Kormylo's previous show, Solar Transition, which ran on Sunday mornings from 4AM to 7AM. While most of Solar Transition was devoted to serene, Sunday morning New Age-y wake up music, the first hour was a noisy free for all that used the segway from Larry Landis's most excellent Quark, Strangness and Charm as an excuse for a no holds barred, rauscious noise fest. In between the white noise and soft synths and strings that came after 6AM was the fusion of beats, radically different world influences and odd synergy that morphed into Ultra Radio. A primary mission was to bring new music, sound sculptures and rarely heard recordings together into a seamless flow of electrifying radio experience.

Some of the artists that might be heard on Ultra radio include My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Mr. Scruff, Japanese Super Star and Model Ayumi Hamasaki, Captain Sensible, Miss Kittin, Felix da Housecat and the occasional forays into rare vinyl from 1960's France, Italy, Cambodia and the far corners of the musical universe.

Kevin Kormylo has also been a guest host on The other Side, various World Music shows and music magazines. He served on the Programming Committee from 2001-2003. He resides near the birthplace of KVMR on Banner Mountain with his wife Jiangyan.
