Kim DanielsI discovered the jewel that is KVMR in 2003. I had only lived in Sacramento a short while and was scanning stations in my car. I remember thinking, why doesn't Sacramento have any quality radio stations? Then Harmony Ridge came through my speakers and my reaction was immediate…89.5 became a "permanent" button. Little did I know that four years later I would be a broadcaster playing music at KVMR! It was my dream as a kid to be a disc jockey.

Growing up, I was exposed to a wide range of music. My grandfather, Wert Harlan, was raised in rural Kentucky where he learned to skillfully play every string instrument imaginable. He regularly played music throughout his life had his own radio show on WHIO for many years and formed a band called The Sunrise Rangers. Check out Wert Harlan at: www.hillbilly-music.com At about the age of fourteen I began to think bluegrass, country, and folk music just wasn't very cool, so I gravitated toward rock and roll. It was the '70's after all. I attended many historic concerts at places like Winterland, the Cow Palace and I attended almost every Day On The Green. I listened to everything I could get my hands on back then and was constantly hearing new music of all types. If you are a regular listener of my show, you know I sometimes give a nod to the rock bands I like, but my taste in music has mostly come full circle. Back to my roots of Folk and Bluegrass. Maybe it is my middle-aged ears but to me, folk is the most rich and has the most depth.

My father was an International Mining Engineer and I grew up in Australia, New Guinea, Peru, South Africa and the Bay Area. In my professional life, I have been a paralegal, a real estate agent, and an insurance adjuster - even traveling to New Orleans to work following hurricane Katrina. That was an experience! I received my broadcaster certification in 2007 and was graciously shown the ropes by Larry Hillberg. I feel honored to have my own show and with that honor comes a huge responsibility to bring you, the listener, a quality program. The format of my Rise & Shine show is to inspire you and put you in a good mood to start your Sunday. I am a member of the Women's Collective and I host a show about every six weeks that features women in music. Also, about every six weeks, I host a Sunday Showcase where I take an in-depth look at an artist I am fond of. HAPPY 30th ANNIVERSARY KVMR!
