Moonglows ("Sincerely"), The Belmonts ("Where or When"), and The Regents ("Barbara Ann"). He toured playing guitar for Chubby Checker. Later in his career, Jimmi recorded with Rupert Holmes ("Escape" -the Piņa Colada song) and Harry Nilsson, and toured as the lead guitarist behind the popular voices of Mickey Dolenz and Davey Jones of The Monkees. Jimmi's own group, The Laughing Dogs, recorded two critically acclaimed albums on Columbia Records, and had songs in the Billboard Top 10. The Laughing Dogs can be heard on Atlantic's Live at CBGB's album and Punky But Chic: The American New Wave Scene from Risky Business/Sony. The Laughing Dogs recorded with producers Bruce Botnik (The Rolling Stones, The Doors) and Eddie Kramer (The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix). His songwriting brought him two Billboard awards and praise from reviewers in the New York Daily News, New York Post, Boston Globe, Billboard, and Record World. His songs have enjoyed radio and TV play worldwide. In collaboration with Eddy Dixon he produced and recorded musical soundtracks for two movies, The Compleat Beatles and The Loveless (starring Willem Dafoe). Jimmi also recorded on several independent labels. Jimmi produced and engineered records for hit rap artists Scott LaRock and Boogie Down Productions, Ultra Magnetic, and KRS 1. He produced and recorded albums with Oz Fritz (grammy-winning engineer for Tom Waits). He composed and performed music with Evan Lurie (The Lounge Lizards, The Terminators). Later he recorded a series of comedy albums, using voice and musical mimicry to satirize popular entertainers like Jimi Hendrix, Frank Sinatra, and The Beach Boys. He also delved into new media, composing and producing music for multimedia CD-ROMs and CD-ROM games. In the 1990s Jimmi moved to California, where he produced and recorded Songs of the Gold Rush. In 1999, Jimmi performed live on CNBC television show SquawkBox. Jimmi has his own independent label, Molehill Music. In performance he has returned to his roots with his band The Wild Cats, creating the authentic sounds of classic rock 'n' roll and blues from the '50s and '60s. His album Keep On Rockin'! features original songs in early rhythm and blues, rockabilly, and jump blues styles. Jimmi is also an artist of works on paper, canvas, film, and video. He taught "The Art of Songwriting," at Sierra College. |
