KVMR will broadcast a pair of Town Hall Meetings this week.
First off, a YubaNet.com town hall focused on making the most out of your participation in public meetings takes place Monday 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Nevada Theatre, downtown Nevada City
"A bewildering alphabet soup, government speak and obscure rules to outsiders can make participating in meetings a daunting task," notes YubaNet co-founder Pascale Fusshoeller.
According to Fusshoeller, the forum will share where to find information about your local government agencies, how to contact your elected officials, unravel the mysteries of public comment rules, talk about California’s open meeting law (Brown Act) and what to do when more information is needed.
"We’ll go over the basics of public comment, share pro tips on making a point on an issue and some very practical advice on attending meetings," she adds.
Next Tuesday, the community radio station will air part of a Town Hall Meeting on Healthcare For All, focusing on The Healthy California Act currently under consideration by the California State Assembly and Senate.
It, too, will be held at the Nevada Theatre.
After a film showing, KVMR will begin its broadcast at 6:45 p.m. when the local League of Women Voters will hold a question session with keynote speaker Michael Lighty and a panel of policy experts to discuss the bill and its prospects.
DRIVE BEST IN 6 YEARS
Buoyed by its first and last days, KVMR's "Summer Of Love" on-air membership drive raised over $93,000, the station's highest total since May of 2011.
Over $18,000 was raised on May 4th when the station coordinated with the "Big Day Of Giving", and nearly $19,000 came in last Saturday during the station's popular roots music programming.
