First Light: Summer Walk at the Summit

Mary Menconi's picture

Summer is in full swing now, and for many of us, that means it's time to head for the Sierra summit!  If you've got a hankering to hike, Rowton Peak, near Soda Springs, is a great destination right now! It's like a wildflower garden, with great views of the Pacific Crest.

The land is part of the Royal Gorge Ski Area, preserved by the Truckee Donner Land Trust. It's the best of both worlds, open for the public to enjoy, but preserved for future generations.  We have our own land trusts in the foothills, too, Bear Yuba Land Trust, and Placer Land Trust.
