While venues like The Apollo theater in New York played a major role in the emergence of jazz, swing, bebop, R&B, gospel, blues, and soul — all quintessentially American music genres related to Jazz in the 1930’s, breaking ground for clubs such as The Warehouse in Chicago in the 1970’s, The Whisky à Go-Go played an important role for many bands based in Southern California in the early days of rock & roll in the 1960’s.
