| Welcome to the Party
It started out modestly. Ten watts in a tiny studio the size of a walk-in closet next to a transmitter on Banner Mountain. On that summer day in 1978, radio station KVMR sprang to life and from that moment on, Nevada City became a community with its own voice. For 30 years, hundreds of broadcasters, volunteers and staff - your neighbors -- have brought us the songs and stories of KVMR. It has been an era rich in music, news and opinion, and it has defined our little community throughout the region, and the world via the Internet.
Now, at 2,000 watts with a reach that extends 24/7 from Truckee to Sacramento and a professional staff at offices on Spring street, we realize that the only way to acknowledge this coming of age is to throw a party for you, our listeners.
