About KVMR:
Over the past decade, community radio station KVMR-FM, Nevada City, California, has evolved into a nationally recognized radio service that has experienced unprecedented growth, financial stability and award-winning creative programming. Now the fun begins. We're looking for a News Director who can move with our 30-year-old community-driven, locally-focused station, into our third decade and beyond.
KVMR provides eclectic, evocative and diverse music programming-plus independent news and provocative public affairs-in the Sierra Nevada Foothills, Sacramento Valley, and Lake Tahoe regions of California. On one level, we are a gentle, homespun 24/7 Lake Wobegon to our listeners; on another, we are a vital source of information often missing from mainstream media.
Nevada City is a small foothills town rich in history and natural beauty-steeped in vibrant artistic, literary and musical traditions. Our climate is mild and inviting; it is an open and welcoming community where value-driven newcomers integrate quickly into our midst. Our listeners and 150 volunteer citizen/broadcasters recognize the importance of environmental quality and sustainability; many of us savor our state-protected Wild and Scenic river, the South Yuba. We have more bookstores per capita than just about anywhere, for which we have been nationally recognized.
Our "community", however, extends well beyond our city and county limits. Nearly half of our listeners are in the Sacramento metro area, where we are an alternative to commercial and public-formatted radio.
We invite you to become an integral part of our community by applying for the position of KVMR News Director.
