Volunteer Profile
Johnny Gallagher
Johnny Gallagher may be a traveling man at heart, but since beginning to volunteer at KVMR in December of 2006 he has managed to spend enough time here that he has become a regular and counted on member of our volunteer community. He leaves every once in a while for a month or two, but he always comes back with photos and stories of some great adventure that he's had, be it Thailand, Costa Rica, or most recently the American Southwest.

I started out at KVMR writing the public service announcements in the late 90s after seeing an ad in the Listeners' Guide when I first moved here from the Bay Area. We got tired of the crowds and traffic in the Bay Area and my wife and I wanted a place to raise kids. I needed a place to fish more, rest my ears (from too many years and too many monitors and amps in my ears) and by luck happened to stumble into Nevada City on a road trip. ...

... I'm leaving a gift to KVMR because I admire the cultural leadership and the passionate work of its people. Three decades of KVMR's locally driven growth and evolution proves to me that my gift will be deployed and enjoyed by thoughtful, pragmatic folks.

Dr. Haines Ely, MD

"Out in the middle of the golf course near where I grew up in Maryland, there was this little building with a big tower. One day, I just walked in, and there was this black deejay, all by himself, playing records, and talking in rhyme." That's how Dr. Ely describes his introduction to radio and to Blues music at age 12. He started hanging out at the station, ...

30 Years of Underwriting
Next to direct support from our listeners, underwriting is KVMR's second largest source of revenue.
From its earliest days, KVMR has enjoyed support from members of the business community throughout our listening area, who recognize that underwriting KVMR is not only a wonderful way to give back to the community; it is also an effective part of their marketing strategy. ...

From The General Manager
Hey! How do I get better reception?
We share the frustration of any listener who may be challenged receiving KVMR 89.5 FM. Let me first point out that the reasons may be different for different listeners...some may be an easy fix and the others may not. Some may be challenged by geography, while some may be affected by a nearby radio station on or next to the same frequency as ours. ...
